Myrtle Beach Things To Do – Exploring The South End

The Grand Strand offers over 60 miles of plush, oceanfront land for guests in the Myrtle Beach area to explore. While you are enjoying your stay in North Myrtle Beach, take a day to explore the south end of the strand. Home to a variety of golf courses, quaint shops, exquisite local dining, and family friendly attractions, the south end offers a welcome change of pace compared to the bustling immediate Myrtle Beach scene.

Located between Murrells Inlet and Pawley’s Island, Brookgreen Gardens is the state’s premier outdoor attraction. Comprised of over 500 acres, this breathtaking attraction features lush gardens dotted with handcrafted sculptures. In addition, Brookgreen boasts a Lowcountry Zoo that features native animals in their natural habitat. Special events and classes throughout the year and make this outdoor attraction a favorite among visitors and locals alike.

Huntington Beach State Park, located in Murrells Inlet, offers another outdoor attraction option. Visitors can tour the scenic oceanfront preserve, enjoy a stroll along the secluded beach, and see a variety of local animals in their natural habitat.  The park also features an educational nature center, tours of Atalaya Castle, and several special events held throughout the year.

If you are in the mood for true local cuisine, be sure to stop in Murrells Inlet, the seafood capital of the state. This area features several local favorites, many located on The Marsh Walk, an oceanfront boardwalk and marina that is home to eight unique restaurants, all of which offer exceptional regional cuisine and breathtaking inlet views. The restaurants here also offer generous happy hour specials and host live bands throughout the week. Visitors who want fresh seafood to-go can grab the day’s freshest catch at Seven Seas, or another local seafood market, which bring seafood straight from the boat to your table.

Visitors seeking a unique shopping experience should head down to the Hammock Shops in Pawley’s Island. For over 75 years, The Hammock Shops have been home to a wide variety of local vendors that offer everything from handcrafted jewelry and gifts to homemade specialty food items and the best fudge in town. The quaint shops are lined with shady oak trees and azaleas, providing guests with a welcoming and relaxing experience. Of course – one would not want to leave without seeing what this venue is famous for – the hammocks! Visitors can watch local artisans craft these rope beds from start to finish and can even purchase one to take home.

In addition to great family friendly attractions, shopping, and dining, the south end also offers a plethora of options for golf fanatics. Players on a budget will love the low prices at Wicked Stick, a John Daly signature course located in Surfside Beach. Knows as a “grip it and rip it” course, this area lacks traditional fairway bunkers and is ideal for golfers of all different skill levels. Golfers looking to splurge will appreciate the world-class golf facilities at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Consistently ranked nationally as one of the best golf courses in America, this course goes above and beyond expectations. Other favorite area courses include Blackmoor Golf Club, Wachesaw Plantation East, Tradition Golf Club, and Prestwick Country Club.

It’s not hard to see why the south end of the grand strand attracts thousands of visitors every year. The beautiful outdoor attractions, succulent local cuisine, and quaint local shops provide plenty of opportunities for a day’s worth of entertainment. Make sure you explore the south end while enjoying your stay at Ocean Creek Resort.
