Memories
Ocean Creek Engagement
Colleen Stryker • Oak Hill, VA
I would like to share the story of how my husband, Rick, and I got engaged on the sands of North Myrtle Beach, just a few short steps in front of the Towers at Ocean Creek.
Growing up I had vacationed at Ocean Creek many times. Rick had known that Ocean Creek was one of my favorite places to be in the world. My parents and I live in separate states so he thought that proposing while visiting with my parents at Ocean Creek would be perfect!
On the morning of April, 2, 2006, Rick had asked if I would like to go on a walk with him on the beach. We were walking on the beach in front of the North and South towers when he asked to sit down in front of the dunes...we had only been walking for maybe 2 minutes so this came as a surprise to me! Once we were seated and snuggled next to each other, Rick started to express his undying love for me and then asked for my hand in marriage. The sun was shining and the morning could not have been more beautiful. I of course said "Absolutely" and he placed the beautiful diamond ring on my finger.
Little did I know, my parents were expecting Rick to propose at some point during out trip because he had already spoken with my father prior to our trip to down to Myrtle Beach. My parents were waiting eagerly in the South Tower while they waited for us to walk off the beach. My mom had even checked the beach a few times with the binoculars to see if she could see the possible proposal! Rick and I made it back to the condo and announced the news to my parents. They were very excited and quickly brought out champagne from their closet that had been sitting on ice for 2 nights!
We enjoyed the perfect warm sunny day by spending it on the beach and then enjoyed a lovely dinner at Carolina Roadhouse. It was a day that we all will never forget, and these memories were made at Ocean Creek. Ocean Creek will always be near and dear to our hearts!
