Memories

Even though I grew up, and still live in, the Midwest, I have had a life long love affair with the ocean since I first saw it when I was four years old.  Fortunately, my family loved to travel so every few years I would get to do my favorite thing in the world….listen to the waves and smell the salt water as I padded up and down the beach.

Fast forward many years and I now have a family of my own, a dear husband and four kids.  We were at that season when our teenagers were investing in developing their own agenda so when the discussion of a summer family vacation came up, there was some degree of disinterest in renting a cabin in our Midwest area.

In a flash of inspiration accompanied by a leap of faith…I announced that we were going to go to the OCEAN instead and suddenly everyone was on board!  I shot up a quick prayer for some direction and soon found my way to the Ocean Creek website.  We were all amazed by the photos and description and wondered if it could really be that great or if it was just good marketing.

From the moment we drove in, we were stunned at the beauty, amenities and the incredible welcome and service we experienced from all the staff.  We loved it!  The next summer we returned and again a couple of years later.  When my oldest daughter graduated from nursing school, the girls and I went again to celebrate and start establishing our adult mother-daughter relationship.

I am planning a trip again to Ocean Creek this spring but this time I am going by myself.  As a writer and life coach, I’m sure there will be a lot of spill over from my time away into my work but I am doing it for me.  Since reading Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s classic, “Gift from the Sea,” I have longed for a chance to go off alone and take stock of my life and look ahead to the next season.  I am 60 years old now and this is the time.  What better place to go for my own “Gift from the Sea” than Ocean Creek.  I can’t wait!
