Memories
A Vacation I will Never Forget!
Dana • Raleigh , NC
My family, our friends, and I stayed at Ocean Creek back in the Spring of 1994. It was my senior year of high school and being from Ohio all I wanted was a tan during my Myrtle Beach visit over Spring Break. The week was off to a good start but it was not very sunny, so I was not getting the suntan I longed for! Then, on one of the first sunny days of our trip, my mother woke us up in a panic! The condo was being evacuated around 5 or 6 in the morning! Ironically it was April Fools' Day and there was man with a megaphone outside of the condo complex saying, "This is not an April Fools' joke, evacuate immediately!" We had no idea what was going on and my mother was reciting the Lord's Prayer as we walked down the steps. We were evacuated to a restaurant nearby, along with several other condo complexes. We found out later that there was an oil spill on the beach and the wind was blowing the fumes towards Ocean Creek and other condos along the beach. Some people were still in their pajamas! Thankfully, we were able to return back to Ocean Creek. My dad was glad that he was able to golf and the rest of us went to the beach.
The weather was beautiful for the rest of the week. I was able to lay out in the sun. Unfortunately, my high school self chose to only wear an SPF 4 while laying out on face side up for four hours. Sure enough, I had a major sunburn. I even blacked out for just a second because I was so dehydrated! I had to go to a walk in clinic to get some lotion.
Even after my sunburn, my family and friends had a blast at Ocean Creek. There was so much to do for both adults, teenagers, and children. It was the perfect family vacation. Now, fifteen years later, I still remember my vacation. Sure, it had some crazy moments, but it was one of the best vacations and the best places we had ever stayed at in Myrtle Beach! Thank you, Ocean Creek, for all of the great memories!
