Stroll The Boardwalk
The newly revamped boardwalk spans just over a mile in length and provides excellent views of the ocean. The Boardwalk is home to the “Hot Summer Nights” promotion and live music during the summer months and hosts a variety of other attractions and shopping that are open throughout the year. Lined with local shops and restaurants, the boardwalk is the perfect place for a leisurely afternoon walk.
Fish The Pier
Located on the southern end of the boardwalk is the Second Avenue Pier. An area staple since 1936, this pier extends almost 1000 feet into the Atlantic and provides spectacular ocean views and a great spot for fishermen. You can bring your own gear or rent for a small fee from the bait & tackle shop and fish the day away. You can expect to find everything from seasonal trout to flounder throughout the year and if you are lucky you might even catch an unsuspecting shark!
Fly High on The SkyWheel
New to the area, the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is quickly becoming an area favorite. This ferris wheel-esque attraction contains 42 climate controlled gondolas that take riders soaring over 20 stories into the air! The gondolas are climate controlled and spacious, ensuring comfort during your journey. If you are not a fan of heights, though, don’t worry – the SkyWheel was designed with over one million LED lights and puts on a spectacular show in the evening that is just as fun to watch from the safety of the ground.
Eat The Best Seafood in Town
You can guarantee that the food you are eating is fresh when you can see where it came from and you can enjoy this luxury at the Pier House restaurant, located on the Second Avenue Pier. Seafood is their specialty and they sure know how to do it well. From lighter fare that is seasoned and grilled to traditional southern fare that is battered and fried – you can find it all at the Pier House. You can also find a variety of other dining options throughout the downtown area with just a short walk.
Have Some Fun!
The best part about the downtown area is the variety of entertainment. Mount Atlanticus mini golf is located right across from the boardwalk and it won’t be hard to see why it is inarguable the best putt putt course in the area. There is also a large zipline course and a sling shot thrill ride for those looking for a rush. Other downtown attractions include the Gay Dolphin Arcade, the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, and the Skyscraper Thrill Ride.
