Though North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach are known for their pristine, sandy shores and ideal beach weather, we are not immune to a rainy day every now and again. You might be a little disappointed at first if the weather is not beach-worthy, but fret not, as the Grand Strand offers plenty of other family friendly activities to keep you busy during your stay, many of which are just a short drive from Ocean Creek Resort. Plus you’ll be happy to know that typically, when it rains in the area, it’s just brief passing shower and certainly nothing that will make you spend your entire day indoors.

Curious about what’s around town? Check out our roundup of the top “Rainy Day Activities” and be prepared for whatever weather might bring.

Barefoot Landing

This waterfront venue is located right across from Ocean Creek Resort, meaning you won’t have to travel far for family friendly fun! Have a family portrait made at Old Tyme Portraits or get up close and personal with cuddly cubs at the T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station. Visitors can also tempt their senses at the 7D Cinema or try and navigate through the winding Mirror Maze. Barefoot Landing also offers an array of local shops and restaurants, giving you plenty to do to fill up your entire day!

The area is packed with live entertainment, including shows at the popular Myrtle Beach House of Blues and Alabama Theatre – both of which are conveniently located right across from Ocean Creek Resort. Other poplar live nearby entertainment shows include the Carolina Comedy Club, Carolina Improv, Pirate’s Voyage and the Carolina Opry.

Shopping

A trip to the beach wouldn’t be complete without a few souvenirs to help you remember your trip and Myrtle Beach offers plenty of places for visitors to stock up on souvenirs and gifts for any occasion.  Find a deal at the nearby Tanger Outlets or find all of your favorite shops in one place at the Myrtle Beach Mall. Other popular places to shop include nearby Barefoot Landing and Coastal Grand Mall, which is about a 20 minute drive south.

Broadway at The Beach

Broadway at The Beach is the area’s premier one stop shop for family entertainment. This venue boasts a wide array of both indoor and outdoor attractions, many of which are perfect for the rare rainy day at the beach. Explore over 100 interactive exhibits at WonderWorks or meet a few new friends at the Ripley’s Aquarium. Embrace your magical side at MagiQuest or get a little lost in the Backstage Mirror Maze. The options are endless!

Catch a Movie

Nothing screams “rainy day” quite like catching that new flick that you’ve been dying to see and Myrtle Beach offers plenty of places for you to do just that! Carmike 12 is just a short drive down Highway 17 at the Myrtle Beach Mall.

Stay at the Beach (Indoors)!

If you are staying in one of our oceanfront condos, you can enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the ocean from the comfort of your living room. If your kids want to go for a swim, just head to the indoor pool where you will be out of the elements for an afternoon of fun.
