Loris Bog Off – October 18th
This local festival takes place right up the road in the small town of Loris, SC each year in October and celebrates one of the most famous low country staples: bog. For those who are unfamiliar with this tasty treat, bog is a traditional dish from this region that is usually made with rice cooked in stock (usually chicken), assorted veggies like peppers and onions, spices, and meat, most commonly chicken and smoked sausage. This “one pot wonder” is a regional favorite and this festival showcases and celebrates all different types of bogs. The bog off will feature a bog cooking contest with plenty of samples available, a classic car show, live entertainment, over 200 local vendors, plenty of activities for the young ones, and a spectacular fireworks show. Head to Loris between 9am – 4pm on that Saturday to see what the big deal about bog is – you won’t regret it!
