Though summer is winding down here in Myrtle Beach, fall is quickly behind, which means several things: more agreeable weather (temperatures average in the mid-70’s during this time of year), diminishing crowds, and tons of fall events to keep you busy! Curious about what Myrtle Beach has to offer during this favorable season? Check out these “must do” events close to Ocean Creek Resort:

Oktoberfest Kickoff at Castano’s – September 20th

Kick off Oktoberfest early this year at Castano’s Italian Steakhouse, conveniently located right across the street in the Barefoot Landing complex. This festive party is the perfect way to ease into fall and get an early start on your German traditions. Enjoy lively German entertainment, games and contests, giveaways, and even Oktoberfest trivia with tempting prizes. And, it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without a feast of German favorites, which is exactly what you can expect! Bavarian pretzels, jager schnitzel, brats with all of the fixings, and plenty of ice cold German beers will be there for your enjoyment. The fun kicks off at 4pm and you won’t want to miss out!

Irish Italian International Festival – September 27th

Though it might seem like an odd combination, we promise that the Irish Italian International Festival is a just as awesome as it sounds. This bustling festival draws more than 15,000 guests each year and it’s not hard to see why! Visitors can look forward to a day jam packed with live entertainment and street performers, arts and crafts vendors, plenty of children’s activities, and even exciting contests like the spaghetti eating competition and awards for “best entrée” – to name a few. Where else in Myrtle Beach can you enjoy corned beef and cabbage, home-style pasta, shepherd’s pie, zesty meatballs, Irish coffee cake, and tiramisu all in one place? This festival takes place from 10am – 4pm on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach and is a rain or shine event.

Little River ShrimpFest – October 11th – 12th

Venture north to the charming town of Little River, SC to take part in their annual celebration of all things shrimp. Sounds simple, but this festival is anything but! Guests at this event can look forward to a jam packed music lineup, filled with local favorites like Bullfrog, Austin Mowery Band, Maddie Hunt, and Jebb Mac Band – to name a few. In addition to live entertainment, this lively event will offer plenty of activities for the little ones, like games and face painting, and a wide array of local vendors. Oh, and you can’t forget the shrimp! There will be just about every shrimp concoction that you can think of available for sample – shrimp bisque, shrimp po’boys, fried shrimp, shrimp skewers, bbq shrimp... the list goes on and on! Come out between 9am – 6pm on Saturday or 9am – 5pm on Sunday to see what all the fun is about!

Loris Bog Off – October 18th

This local festival takes place right up the road in the small town of Loris, SC each year in October and celebrates one of the most famous low country staples: bog. For those who are unfamiliar with this tasty treat, bog is a traditional dish from this region that is usually made with rice cooked in stock (usually chicken), assorted veggies like peppers and onions, spices, and meat, most commonly chicken and smoked sausage. This “one pot wonder” is a regional favorite and this festival showcases and celebrates all different types of bogs. The bog off will feature a bog cooking contest with plenty of samples available, a classic car show, live entertainment, over 200 local vendors, plenty of activities for the young ones, and a spectacular fireworks show. Head to Loris between 9am – 4pm on that Saturday to see what the big deal about bog is – you won’t regret it!
